Confused about the garbage recycling in Taipei? Here are tips for you!

Welcome to Taiwan! Aside from the delicious food and beautiful scenery, you may be also curious about our garbage classification system. Today, let's look into how general garbage and recycling are categorized in Taiwan!

Garbage Classification Tips

In Taiwan, garbage classification is part of our life. The garbage is mainly divided into three categories:

  • General garbage
  • Recyclable
  • Food waste

General Garbage:

This includes plastic bags, disposable utensils, straws, and other miscellaneous items. If there are sharp objects, like bamboo skewers, it's recommended to break the sharp part or wrap them slightly before discarding to ensure safety.

Recyclable:

This includes plastic and paper food containers, drink cups, glasses, metal, cupboard and more.

Please make sure to rinse the food container and drink cups before throwing them away, as this will prevent the breeding of insects and unpleasant odors in Taiwan's humid and warm climate.

If you're discarding broken glass or ceramic items, remember to wrap them carefully with paper.

These small steps can create a more comfortable and safer working environment for the garbage collectors.

Food Waste:

If there is any soup or liquid, please drain it completely before putting it into the trash bag. To avoid odors and pests, we also suggest refrigerating the leftovers, and take it out when it's time to dispose of it. Feel free to try this unique Taiwanese household tip!

Garbage Truck Schedule in Taipei

Speaking of garbage, we'd love to mention that garbage trucks are quite punctual. We will hear the music when the truck arrives and leaves. Each stop lasts about 5-10 minutes, so we recommend checking in advance or asking us about the schedule and locations in your area. This way, you won't miss the truck when you hear its melody!

There are two types of garbage trucks.

The yellow truck is responsible for collecting general garbage and food waste.

General garbage should be thrown directly into the truck, while food waste should be placed in the designated recycling bin of the truck.

The other one is the white recycling truck, where you can just hand over your sorted recycling bags to the cleaners.

Please note that every Wednesday and Sunday are non-collection days, so if you plan to go out, be mindful of those dates!

Convenient Waste Disposal

For our guests, there's no need to worry about chasing after the garbage truck! We provide an easy way to dispose of your trash - just place your garbage in the designated area of our building, and our trash collector will pick them up.

The specific locations and times for each apartment may vary, so feel free to ask us if you have any questions. We will also share the details after check-in.

Although garbage classification may seem a bit tedious, once it becomes a habit, it not only makes our living environment tidier but also allows for better resource circulation.
